Bet those old Packards had fairly stiff springs - I have used my old 
LandRover in a similar way at race meetings. Alas, the Landies have 
both gone now so the ladder option is looking attractive. Now if 
there happened to be an old Packard Station Wagon for sale here that 
might be a different story :-)
