Hi Jay (and everyone else),
I've been lurking on the list for a little while. I would say
I'm a landscape guy (just 4x5) although I do some commercial
work part time. 99% of what I photograph is in color. I
own a small custom lab in San Diego, CA, doing both
Type R and Type C printing. I might be kind of a rarity
on this list since I'm a color darkroom nut. I use two Toyo
monorails and use relatively modern lenses - mid 80's vintage,
I guess? Two Schneiders, one Rodenstock and I just acquired
a new 75mm Caltar-II that I'm playing with. =20
My main passion is landscapes and cityscapes. Although
I love nature, I'm not afraid to include man-made structures
in my photographs if they work well. I also photograph new
buildings for a real estate developer now and then, for some
extra income and to keep in practice.
Since I print my own transparencies, one of the best combo's
I've found is Fuji Astia 100 printed on Fuji Type R paper. The
lower contrast of the film (versus Velvia or Provia) works well
with the slight bump in contrast provided by the paper, to
produce a nice overall result. I'm in the process of building
B&W capabilities into my darkroom, so I'm looking forward
to getting back into B&W. It's been a while though!
So that's a little info on me. There are many wonderful and
dedicated people on this list so I think you'll enjoy it! =20
